Cody Janssen Officially Crowned ATV Motocross National Champion at West Virginia Ceremony
A year ago at this time, Cody Janssen set out on a journey with one goal in mind. That goal was to become the National Champion in Junior 25+ division of the world’s most prestigious ATV racing series, the AMA ATV Motocross National Championship. He had just fallen short of this same goal, finishing as runner-up in the 2018 championship – but he wouldn’t come up empty this time.
Janssen won 4 overalls, amassed 11 of 16 moto victories, grabbed 9 holeshots, and ultimately claimed his third National Championship by a single point. He was strong from the first gate drop of the season to the last, but untimely fluke occurrences forced Cody’s back up against the wall. To be named National Champion, he would have to win the final few motos of the season – and that’s exactly what he did. At the Loretta Lynn’s season finale, after a dominant 1-1 performance, he had officially clinched the National Championship.
On the Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend, the sport came together to honor its champions and draw the final curtain on the 2019 season. The difficulty of the journey made the taste of victory that much sweeter, as Cody was officially crowned National Champ.
“What do you say when everything in your world seems to have fallen perfectly into place?” Janssen said with tears filling his eyes upon receiving his award. “I’ve dedicated my life to this sport, and in return it has repaid me with a lifetime’s worth of unforgettable memories, shaped me into the man I am today, taught me life lessons I would’ve never learned anywhere else, and showed me a great deal of success. I’m GRATEFUL for all the amazing individuals within my racing efforts and personal life who assist me in chasing my dreams and shaping my character. I’m THANKFUL for all the companies, families, and individuals who believe in me and support the pursuit of my goals. And I’m BLESSED with all the memories made, time spent with my loved ones doing what we enjoy, and to be in a position to live out my dreams and have a platform to positively impact the lives of others. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this ride, I am a very lucky man. I’ll be back, but first we’ll appreciate what we accomplished this year. We did it, 2019 ATV Motocross Junior 25+ National Champ!”
