Janssen Returns to Racing for Loretta Lynn’s Season Finale, “Doing it For Dad.”
(Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. August 11, 2023) – You would be hard-pressed to find someone more passionate about ATV racing than former AMA ATV Pro and current host of the Digging Deep ATVMX Podcast Cody Janssen. As a professional racer for a handful of years and a lifelong enthusiast of the sport, Cody’s being has revolved around ATV racing for most of his life. Today things are no different as he continues to compete at some of the highest levels of ATV racing while covering the sport to the absolute fullest for the Digging Deep ATVMX Podcast.
Cody Janssen and his Yamaha YFZ450R made their season debut at the Ironman Raceway in May, where he brought home a solid runner-up finish in the highly competitive 25+ division of ATV Motocross National Championship competition. Just two weeks later was the Sunset Ridge ATV National, the closest to home for the Janssen family. Rider and crew had everything prepped and ready for another great weekend, but the night before the family was set to travel to Illinois tragedy struck. Joel Janssen, Cody’s father and biggest supporter for more than two decades of racing, suffered a devasting stroke in his sleep. Though his mind was unaffected, the right side of his body would require much rehabilitation to resume life as the Janssen family knew it.
After staying by his father’s side for the first 15+ hours post-stroke, Cody and his wife, Brooke, decided to travel to Sunset Ridge and attempt to bring his father home a trophy. However, it was not meant to be. After a great day of practice on Friday, Cody suffered a fluke mechanical failure on Saturday morning that destroyed his engine in the process. His hopes of “doing it for dad”, on this particular weekend, had come to an end.
In the nearly three months since, Cody has been focused on covering the sport for the hundreds of thousands of listeners that tune in to the Digging Deep ATVMX Podcast. He was also in attendance to announce for the Briarcliff ATV Motocross National last month. As for Joel, he has been focused on healing and his diligence has paid off in the form of regaining most all of the movement he lost from the stroke. We anticipate a recovery as close to complete as possible.
The plan of “doing it for Dad” was derailed back in Illinois, so we’re going to give it another try this weekend at Loretta Lynn’s ATV National at Loretta Lynn’s Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. Win, lose, or draw – this one is for you, Dad. Let’s go racing!
Cody would like to thank all of his supporters that continue their backing of the four-time National Champion, starting with all the loyal listeners and partners of his Digging Deep ATVMX Podcast. Huge thank you to Yamaha Outdoors, Wienen Motorsports, PEP Performance Tuning, and Paul Turner for the great deal of support and guidance. Thanks for the continued support to SSI Decals, CST Tires, Valvoline, Elka Suspension, FMF Racing, and All Balls Racing Group – without the continued support of these long-time believers none of this would be possible.
